((Finally got around to sorting out Korgesh's backstory, with a bit of help from the WowWiki, the blizzard website, and even a little 'know you lore'. It's a bit longer than I intended, probably a bit much for the RP background thread on the realm forums, so I'll just post it here. Any thoughts or comments, feel free to post. Sorry about the formatting, copy/paste from notepad doesn't seem to like the forums.))
An orc of the Frostwolf Clan, Korgesh was born late to his sire and mother. Training as one of Drek'Thar's many shaman apprentices he showed a fierce temperament and desire for power, often ordering
the spirits rather than asking of them. When the young and lost Thrall returned to the Frostwolf, Korgesh was several years his senior, and had even fathered a baseborn daughter of his own named Matsuri. Having heard tales of the Doomhammer for years, he was excited at the prospect of finding the old warchief and had planned to leave with Thrall, but was shattered to be told to stay behind as he was far from the end of his training - while Thrall had innate wisdom and had taken to his training well, Korgesh was too rash and impulsive.
While continuing his training, he was approached one night by a warlock envoy of the Blackrock clan, who were seeking spies amongst the Frostwolf. Denying them, he was ensorcelled by the charms of a succubus and mate to forget of the encounter, but his personality began to change. He had planned to have more children, but suddenly spurned his daughters mother, and while he had always been quite reclusive with other's he withdrew even more, eventually spending most of his time alone in meditation. While he had never been particularly physical, his subconscious frustration and anger began to show more often, and he became well known amongst his clan for fighting viciously, if somewhat carelessly.
When the horde followed Thrall to Kalimdor at Medivh's behest, Korgesh went with them. When the ship he was on passed too close to the maelstrom one of the masts snapped, killing the captain. With the ship about to be destroyed, and the leuitenant struck dumb with panic, he beseached the spirits of the wind to
push them to safety, saving the ship. By the time the horde ships had landed and crashed upon the shores of their future home, he had been accepted into the navy and given the title of captain.
He saw great promise, and someone of as near violent a nature as his own in Grom Hellscream, and soon looked to him as a leader - unbeknownst to him, this was more of the sorcery of the BlackRock influencing him, as once more the warlock and his succubus had worked their demonic magic upon him in secret. When Thrall was the only survivor of the battle with Mannoroth, Korgesh was near violently angry, and blamed him for the death of the red skinned hero in his grief. With persistence, patience, and relying upon the
common ground of the spirits they shared, Thrall won him over, and put the first crack into the subconscious stain of the agents of Nefarion.
When the time came to battle at Hyjal, Korgesh donned the claws, robe, and wolf helm of a shaman and fought valiantly. As most of the horde leadership was present, even that of the naval forces, an
admiralship became open due to heavy losses and he was promoted again. As the new Horde built it's new home in Durotar, the agent of the dark horde came more often, twisting Korgesh's memories to forget he had ever been there, and wrying more information out of him with the succubus. Again the shaman became more violent and distant to his companions, until Admiral Proudmoore brought his fleet to Kalimdor and the battles ensued. Under Korgesh's command his ships performed well, and he and the other admirals won the day - but at the cost of his own ship, The BloodHand. He was crushed at the loss, also losing most of his
crew, and sought permission of the warchief to retire and let fresh blood rebuild his portion of the fleet.
Thrall granted his request, but not for the reasons Korgesh assumed. His bastard daughter, Matsuri, had travelled from Alterac Valley with the frostwolf emissaries, and now a teenager ready to take a blade and join the horde she had asked the warchief to help her get to know her father. By now Thrall was wise beyond his years, and was fully aware of the demonic influence upon Korgesh - and this was a convenient excuse to have it sorted out quietly.
With her and the emissaries of alterac came a group of Forsaken, some freshly woken from the grave. One such, Demron, had befriended young Matsuri, and was thus introduced to her father. A powerful warlock, he also saw the stain upon Korgesh's soul, and took him aside and spoke of it in private. The shaman's rage knew no bounds, and he tore most of his house apart in a furor, stalking from Orgrimmar and catching the next zeppelin to Tirisfal. He headed south into Blackrock mountain with a group of adventurers, and before long faced the warchief of the dark horde himself - Rend BlackHand. In a powerful fight the adventurers triumphed, and when they returned to Orgrimmar with the severed head of the false warchief, Korgesh felt a powerful weight lifted from his spirit. He could remember the things they had made him forget, and carried a head of his own in his pack - that of the warlock who had ensorcelled him for so many years. He sent the head to Demron with a thankyou, and a warning, that should any warlock seek to influence him again against his own heart and goals, they would find a similar fate.
Free finally, Korgesh spent time with his daughter, and eventually travelled to outland with her once the portal had been opened. More and more, however, he found himself in the company of Demron and his allies, the guild of Dawn Vigil. While he refused to wear any tabard but that of his clan, Korgesh gladly accepted the invitation to join their guild, even bringing his daughter and several others into it by his side. While his daughter soon tired of outland and returned to Azeroth, and the adventurers he had fought with in blackrock (a orc and blood-elf hunter, and a tauren warrior) soon left to form their own guild, he stayed and continued to battle in the guilds name. Eventually he cast his lot with the Aldor aswell, having had somewhat of a calming of spirit and reawakening. Where when he retired he felt his years were short and soon over, he now feels a sense of duty to the horde renewed, and has considered officially
re-entering the military of his nation.
Occasionally when visiting his daughter and the warchief he dons the garb of a grunt and patrols the city to help keep the peace, inspired by words once said to him by the Hellscream - that strength of arms and vigilance is the cost of freedom. His fury is still great on the battlefield, and he has refined skills he learned during the war into those of an accomplished engineer, but the war of the day is in outland, and the smell of sea salt has almost left his memory.
